MY RIVER IS YOURS
How Russia, Kazakhstan, and China share water: the most vital resourсe of modern humanity
Among Russia's neighbors, there are countries in which there is a catastrophic shortage of water (these are the countries of Central Asia and some regions of China) and that depend on water from sparsely populated territories of Russia. In particular, the waters of the river Irtysh, which originates in China and flows through Kazakhstan. The Irtysh reaches Russia already heavily polluted and shallow. How can this be prevented? How can we keep water in this transboundary sieve? Will we "turn the Siberian rivers" - this idea of the Soviet era suddenly became very popular again. The authors of the project “My River Is Yours”, Maya Soyerova and Tatiana Chekhova, tried to sort out the situation by traveling to Russian and Kazakh cities and towns along the Irtysh river. In this project, you will learn how people live on the banks of the same river on opposite sides of the border. I've made layouts and illustrations based on author's photos.
